I only score this volume as a 4 of 5, because there were a few parts that seemed to have too much exposition, and made me want to get to the next action scene. My brother and his lovely client get lucky this time around to catch somewhat of a break in between the midst of the dubious upcoming case and affair, but not at all without some of the usual rigmarole. What's most interesting, however, are the shades of grey in the characters. The author takes us on a journey as she rediscovers the child within her that was crippled, submerged, and restrained even though her faith in God was strong and vibrant. L J Martin does not disappoint. Entrenched behaviors, outdated beliefs, and unconscious habits of attention can generate endless sludge in our immediate surroundings. Teachers of French might consider assigning this book, if they can find enough copies. This one just didn't do it for me.
